YCharts

Implementing YCharts is a streamlined process designed for rapid time-to-value. For individual Professional users, the platform is ready for immediate use upon sign-up, with a 'Getting Started' wizard that guides them through setting up their dashboard and watchlists. For Enterprise firms, the implementation process is more structured, typically taking 2-4 weeks. This includes a dedicated implementation consultant who manages firm-wide setup, data migration from legacy systems, and the configuration of compliance-approved report templates. The process involves four key stages: Discovery (understanding firm-wide needs), Setup (configuring integrations and user permissions), Training (conducting live group sessions and providing access to YCharts University), and Go-Live (continuous support and account management). For firms using integrations like Orion or Redtail, the setup includes an API mapping phase to ensure seamless daily data refreshes.

YCharts offers extensive customization capabilities, particularly for the 'Professional' and 'Enterprise' tiers. Users can customize their Dashboards with a variety of modules including heatmaps, news feeds, and AI-powered market commentary. The most robust customization is found in the 'Report Builder,' where firms can create bespoke PDF templates with their own logos, brand colors, custom disclosures, and unique layouts. This allows advisors to maintain a consistent brand identity across all client-facing materials. Furthermore, the platform allows for the creation of 'Custom Securities' and 'Scoring Models,' enabling investment committees to bake their proprietary methodology directly into the software's ranking and screening tools. Enterprise users can also define 'Share Groups' to control how research and models are distributed and accessed across different branches or advisor teams.

The core YCharts subscription is generally inclusive of most standard features, but there are potential additional costs for advanced data sets and high-volume usage. While data on over 50,000 stocks, ETFs, and mutual funds is standard, some specialized data sets—such as Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs), individual bond data, and certain ESG or alternative investment metrics—may require an add-on fee. For large organizations, bespoke API integrations or custom development work beyond the standard scope of the platform may incur professional services fees. The Excel Add-In is included in the Professional tier but may have usage caps for extremely high-volume data pulls. There are typically no separate maintenance or server fees, as the product is fully cloud-hosted, and standard training and support are included in the subscription price.

YCharts provides a comprehensive training ecosystem aimed at ensuring users can leverage the platform's full power. Every Professional-tier client is assigned a dedicated Account Manager who provides personalized, 1-on-1 onboarding and strategic reviews. Beyond this, 'YCharts University' offers a vast library of on-demand video tutorials, live webinars, and white papers covering everything from 'Portfolio Management 101' to advanced Excel automation. The company also conducts regular 'Product Update' webinars to train users on new features. For enterprise teams, YCharts offers tailored group training sessions, either virtual or on-site, designed around the firm's specific workflows and compliance requirements. Users can also access a searchable Knowledge Base and a live in-app support chat for quick technical questions during the workday.

Security is a foundational priority for YCharts, which maintains SOC 2 Type I and Type II certifications to ensure the highest standards of data protection and privacy. The platform is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), leveraging institutional-grade infrastructure with 99.9% availability and multi-region redundancy. All data is encrypted both at rest (using AES-256) and in transit (using TLS 1.2 or higher). Access to the production environment is strictly controlled via multi-factor authentication (MFA) and role-based access controls (RBAC). YCharts also employs continuous monitoring and log management tools to detect and respond to potential security threats in real-time. For enterprise clients, the platform supports single sign-on (SSO) to align with internal corporate security policies. The company also performs regular third-party penetration testing and vulnerability assessments.

As a SaaS-based platform, YCharts follows a continuous deployment model, with minor updates and bug fixes occurring weekly and major feature releases typically happening monthly. Users do not need to manually install any updates, as the web platform and Excel Add-In are updated automatically. YCharts provides transparency into its release cycle through a 'Product Release Notes' page and monthly 'Product Update' emails and webinars. The platform’s architecture is designed to handle high-frequency updates without downtime, ensuring that users always have access to the latest data and tools. Significant innovations, such as the AI Chat tool or new custodian integrations, are typically announced with dedicated training resources to help users integrate the new capabilities into their existing daily workflows.

YCharts adheres to a clear data ownership policy where the user or firm retains ownership of all proprietary data they upload or create within the platform. This includes client portfolio holdings, custom model strategies, and bespoke report templates. Users can export their research and analysis data at any time in various formats, including Excel, CSV, and PDF. While YCharts provides the market data (sourced from S&P Global and others), any 'intellectual property' created by the advisor—such as a proprietary scoring model—remains theirs. If a subscription is terminated, YCharts provides options for data portability, allowing users to export their saved assets before the account is closed. The company's privacy policy explicitly states that client data is never sold to third parties and is used solely for the purpose of providing the service.

YCharts is built to scale seamlessly from solo advisors to the largest global financial institutions. The cloud-native architecture allows for an unlimited number of users and accounts within an organization without performance degradation. For growing firms, the 'Enterprise' tier provides tools to manage this scale efficiently, such as centralized model portfolio distribution, firm-wide research lists, and hierarchical user permissions. The 'Integration Auto-Refresh' feature ensures that as an advisor's book of business grows, their portfolio data stays updated across hundreds of accounts without manual intervention. Additionally, the platform's 'Household' reporting features allow advisors to manage increasing complexity by grouping related accounts into a single view. The underlying AWS infrastructure allows YCharts to scale its data processing power dynamically to meet peak market demands.

YCharts subscriptions are typically structured as annual contracts, billed upfront. While the company offers a 7-day free trial for new users to evaluate the platform, there are generally no refunds for partial-year cancellations once a contract has commenced. Renewal is typically automatic unless a notice of non-renewal is provided (usually 30 days prior to the expiration date). For Enterprise clients, multi-year contracts may be negotiated to lock in pricing and terms. The Service Level Agreement (SLA) guarantees high uptime, and the terms of use outline the permitted use of market data, prohibiting the redistribution of raw data in a way that competes with YCharts' data providers. All contracts include access to standard updates, support, and a dedicated account manager for the Professional tier and above.

Compliance is a core feature of the YCharts platform, particularly for enterprise users who must operate under strict regulatory oversight. The platform provides 'Compliance-Approved' report templates that can be locked down by a firm's central office to ensure consistency and adherence to legal requirements. All PDF reports include automated disclosure sections that can be customized with firm-specific legal language. YCharts also maintains an archive of generated reports for auditing purposes. The platform's data is sourced from reputable, institutional providers like S&P Global, ensuring that advisors are using accurate and defensible information. Furthermore, YCharts works with third-party organizations like DALBAR to review its platform and outputs for compliance with SEC and FINRA marketing rules, providing an extra layer of assurance for firms during regulatory examinations.
