VulScan
بواسطة RapidFire Tools (A Kaseya Company)
VulScan is a flagship product of RapidFire Tools, which operates as a business unit within the Kaseya family of companies. RapidFire Tools has established itself as a market leader in non-invasive IT assessment and compliance software. The company’s vision is to empower 'do-it-all' IT professionals with automated tools that handle the heavy lifting of data collection and risk analysis. By focusing on automation and ease of use, VulScan addresses the critical market gap where specialized security expertise is scarce and expensive. The product is strategically positioned as part of the Kaseya IT Complete platform, which aims to provide a unified suite of tools covering RMM, PSA, security, and backup for modern IT organizations.
RapidFire Tools was founded in 2010 by Michael S. and a team of IT veterans in Atlanta, Georgia. The company’s original goal was to create tools that helped IT service providers perform faster and more accurate network assessments. Their first major success, Network Detective, became a staple for MSPs globally. In September 2018, RapidFire Tools was acquired by Kaseya, a global leader in IT and security management software. This acquisition provided the capital and infrastructure necessary to expand the product line from simple assessments to continuous vulnerability management, leading to the launch of VulScan. The founding team remained integral to the product development, ensuring the original focus on MSP profitability and efficiency was maintained.
As a division of Kaseya, VulScan benefits from the massive financial backing of Kaseya’s parent company and its investors. Kaseya has raised billions in capital, most notably a $6.2 billion financing round led by Insight Partners with participation from TPG and Temasek in 2022. This funding supported the acquisition of Datto and the continued R&D for the RapidFire Tools suite. Previously, Kaseya had received significant investments from Insight Partners and Bregal Sagemount. This strong financial foundation allows VulScan to maintain a consistent update schedule and invest in large-scale hosted scanner infrastructure that would be difficult for smaller, standalone security startups to maintain.
The VulScan offering is structured into three primary components: Internal Vulnerability Scanning, External Vulnerability Scanning, and Discovery Agents. The Internal Scanning module utilizes virtual appliances (Inspector units) that can be spun up on existing hardware. The External Scanning module utilizes RapidFire Tools' own hosted scanner farms to view the network through the eyes of an outside attacker. The Windows Discovery Agents provide visibility into remote laptops and workstations that may not always be on the corporate network. These offerings are often bundled with other RapidFire Tools products like Network Detective Pro (for IT assessments) and Compliance Manager GRC (for regulatory audits) to provide a 360-degree security view.
Since its acquisition by Kaseya, VulScan has seen significant global expansion. Originally focused on the North American MSP market, the platform is now supported by Kaseya’s global infrastructure, which includes offices and data centers in Dublin, London, Amsterdam, Sydney, Bangalore, and Dubai. Regional expansion has been particularly strong in the EMEA region, where Kaseya has established a dedicated presence to help customers meet GDPR requirements. In the GCC region, the product is available through regional partners and distributors like Bakotech and CNS, supported by Kaseya's international sales and engineering teams. Localized support is provided through these partnerships to ensure regional compliance and technical assistance.
In the last 18 months, VulScan has introduced several major feature sets to address evolving threat landscapes. A key release was the 'Hosted Vulnerability Scan' service (September 2023), which allows users to outsource the setup of external scanning environments to RapidFire Tools. Another significant update included the expansion of the 'Windows Discovery Agent' to scan for vulnerabilities in over 200 common third-party software applications, moving beyond simple OS-level checks. Recent UI enhancements have focused on the 'Cooper Copilot' integration—Kaseya's AI-driven assistant that helps users interpret scan results and prioritize remediation based on real-time threat intelligence and peer benchmarking data.
The culture at RapidFire Tools is defined by a 'results-oriented' and 'partner-centric' philosophy. As part of Kaseya, the company emphasizes 'Kaseya Cares,' a corporate social responsibility initiative that supports local communities through charitable giving and volunteerism. The work environment is characterized by fast-paced innovation, often following an agile development cycle where partner feedback directly influences the product roadmap. Employees are encouraged to be 'experts in the field,' with significant investment in professional development and certification programs. The company maintains a hybrid work policy across its global hubs, fostering a diverse workforce that includes talent from major tech centers like Miami, Atlanta, and Bangalore.
VulScan users are part of the broader Kaseya and RapidFire Tools community, which is one of the largest in the MSP industry. This includes access to the 'Kaseya Community' forums, where thousands of IT professionals share best practices and scripts. The company hosts 'Kaseya Connect,' an annual global user conference that features dedicated tracks for VulScan and security management. Additionally, the 'RapidFire Tools Portal' provides a rich library of resources, including the 'Vulnerability Management Checklist' and specialized webinars. For developers and advanced users, the platform offers API access and documentation to build custom integrations into the wider security ecosystem.
