Synfig Studio is a powerful, open-source 2D animation software designed for producing high-quality animations using vector and bitmap artwork. It eliminates the need for frame-by-frame drawing through features like tweening, bone rigging, and advanced layer support. Synfig Studio supports complex character animations, cut-out animation workflows, and effects such as gradients, filters, and distortions, making it suitable for both amateur animators and professionals. With a focus on production efficiency, it enables users to animate characters and scenes with precision while maintaining smooth motion and consistent design across frames.
Synfig Studio began as a proprietary product developed by Voria Studios, later released as open-source software in 2005. It has since evolved through contributions from the open-source community, growing into a reliable option for 2D vector animation.
Synfig Studio operates without commercial funding or valuation. Its development is sustained by volunteers and individual donations, as well as small grants and crowdfunding from the animation and open-source communities.
