Peel Analytics
By Peel Insights
Peel Analytics is a New York-based SaaS company specializing in automated analytics for e-commerce businesses, particularly those operating on Shopify and Amazon. The platform focuses on retention analytics, cohort analysis, and customer segmentation to help brands optimize customer lifetime value (LTV), reduce churn, and drive revenue growth. Peel positions itself as a no-code solution, making advanced analytics accessible to non-technical users.
Peel Analytics was founded in 2019 by Nicolas Grasset (CEO), Yasmin Nozari (COO), and Phillipe Casorla Sagot (CTO). The founders, with backgrounds in tech and e-commerce, identified a gap in the market for automated analytics tools that simplify data analysis for e-commerce teams. Initially bootstrapped, the company launched its services in Shopify’s marketplace in its first year. Peel has since experienced steady growth, driven by the rise of e-commerce during the pandemic and its focus on actionable insights for customer retention.
Peel Analytics has raised $6.46 million over two funding rounds:
Convertible Note: Raised an undisclosed amount in July 2020.
Seed VC-II: Secured $5.26 million in August 2021, led by Lerer Hippeau with participation from Eniac Ventures, Accomplice VC, and Vinyl Capital.
The company’s valuation remains undisclosed, but its funding reflects strong investor confidence in its niche analytics capabilities for e-commerce businesses.
Peel Analytics offers a robust suite of features tailored to e-commerce businesses:
Retention Analytics: Tracks metrics like churn rates, repeat purchase rates, and LTV.
Cohort Analysis: Groups customers by acquisition time to analyze behavior over time.
Segmentation: Hyper-specific customer segmentation based on tags, geography, purchase patterns, and more.
Subscription Metrics: Provides insights into subscriber growth rates, churn reduction strategies, and one-time purchaser conversions.
Ad Campaign Tracking: Integrates with platforms like Meta (Facebook Ads), Google Ads, TikTok Ads, and Pinterest to track CAC and ROAS.
Custom Dashboards: Allows businesses to create tailored dashboards for specific KPIs.
In May 2024, Peel Analytics was acquired by Shopify to enhance its e-commerce analytics capabilities. The acquisition aligns with Shopify's strategy to provide merchants with deeper insights into customer behavior and improve personalized shopping experiences. Peel’s flagship product, Magic Dash, continues to operate within Shopify’s ecosystem post-acquisition.
Peel has consistently expanded its offerings with features like:
Market Basket Analysis: Identifies relationships between products frequently purchased together.
RFM Analysis: Helps segment customers based on recency, frequency, and monetary value of purchases.
Peel operates as a fully remote team with a product-first approach. The company emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity:
Founders highlight their mission to make data analysis simple and accessible for all businesses.
Employees describe the work environment as fast-paced but supportive, with a focus on solving real-world challenges through data.
Peel primarily serves direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands on Shopify and Amazon. Notable clients include Jones Road Beauty, Caraway Home, True Classic Tees, Lovepop Cards, Stix (women’s healthcare), and Porter Road (sustainable meat). Its user base spans small startups to well-established enterprises looking to optimize retention strategies.
