Payment Depot
By Stax Payments, Inc
Payment Depot is a California-based payment processing company known for its transparent, membership-based pricing model. Below is a detailed analysis covering company overview, growth, funding, products, acquisitions, new features, culture, and user base.
Payment Depot is a merchant services provider based in Orange, California, focused on offering low-cost payment processing for businesses of all sizes through a subscription model rather than percentage markups. It is now a part of Stax Payments, following its acquisition in 2021.
Founded in 2013, Payment Depot quickly garnered attention for its unique pricing structure and focus on serving high-volume U.S. merchants. The company built its reputation by emphasizing cost savings for established businesses and positioning itself as a disruptor to traditional payment processors. As of 2025, Payment Depot employs between 11 and 25 employees and is headquartered in Orange, CA.
Payment Depot has remained privately held with less than $5 million in total funding raised, which is modest compared to sector giants like Stripe or Square. Current estimates place the company’s annual revenue between $3.5 million and $19.8 million. Its acquisition by Stax suggests some exit value, although no public valuation figures are available.
Key offerings include:
Membership-based pricing (flat monthly fee plus small per-transaction fee, no processor markup).
Support for various payment environments: in-person (POS terminals), mobile, and eCommerce.
Equipment options include both mobile and countertop terminals, and free reprogramming of compatible existing equipment.
Transparent, non-proprietary hardware approach allowing greater business flexibility.
Focus on businesses processing higher transaction volumes due to the monthly subscription model's cost structure.
Payment Depot espouses values of transparency and fairness in pricing, with a stated mission to level the playing field for merchants by eliminating confusing processor markups. The company sees itself as an advocate for merchant cost-savings and operational clarity, and is known for approachable customer support.
Payment Depot targets U.S.-based, high-volume merchants that can maximize the benefits of a membership pricing structure. Smaller businesses or seasonally-dependent merchants may find the model less advantageous due to the monthly fixed cost. The company has developed a loyal user base, particularly among merchants seeking cost control and billing transparency.
