PayEm

PayEm is a comprehensive global spend, procurement, and AP automation platform built to centralise finance processes from pre-authorisation through reconciliation. Its goal is to empower lean finance teams to capture and prevent spend before it happens, rather than merely reporting it after the fact. The platform offers a unified suite—smart corporate cards, invoice OCR, request workflows, approval routing, cross-border payments, and real-time ERP integration—so finance teams can eliminate multi-tool chaos and accelerate month-end close. Smart Corporate Cards & Fund Requests: PayEm instantaneously issues configurable virtual and physical cards that enforce granular merchant, amount, and timeframe controls. Every transaction auto-collects receipt data and syncs to the ledger in real time, eliminating out-of-policy purchases and manual coding. Custom request forms, built without IT support and integrated with approval logic, serve as the trigger point—employees request funds, the system issues a card once approved, and finance clicks to reconcile receipts. AI-Powered AP & Invoice Automation: PayEm uses advanced OCR and machine learning to read, code, and route invoices, prevent duplicates, and match lines to POs—writing transaction data directly into ERPs. Integration with NetSuite and QuickBooks supports PO matching, amortisation schedules, custom fields, and real-time GL updates in minutes. This end-to-end automation brings AP under one roof, reduces errors, accelerates month-end close, and strengthens audit trails. Global & Multi-currency Support: PayEm caters to multinational businesses with payment capabilities in more than 200 countries and 130 currencies. It offers digital wallets to manage subsidiary accounts and schedules ACH or wire bulk payments on company-wide terms. Vendor-specific virtual cards enable SaaS or subscription controls, with spend limits and renewal alerts—driving efficiency and preventing overspending. Integrations & Ecosystem Flexibility: Beyond accounting, PayEm integrates with HRIS (e.g., BambooHR, HiBob) to auto-provision roles and workflows, alongside SSO (Okta, Azure) and tools like Slack for notifications and approvals. Analytics provide real-time budget variance insights, including committed PO and bill spend, enabling finance to address overspend proactively. User Experience & ROI: Users rate PayEm 4.8/5 (G2), citing 40–80% time savings in AP and faster books. Multiple testimonials reference reduced manual tasks, real-time visibility, and streamlined closing processes. Internal capabilities like self-configurable forms and hierarchical approvals allow finance teams to pivot quickly during growth or restructuring without vendor delays. Founding & Funding: Founded in 2019 and based in New York, San Francisco, and Tel Aviv, PayEm has raised approximately $247 million via seed, Series A, equity, and debt rounds. A major $220 million combined raise in January 2023 came from Viola Credit, MUFG, Collaborative Fund, and others, indicating investor confidence in PayEm’s integrated finance-ops vision. Positioning: In a crowded innovation landscape—featuring Ramp, Brex, Airbase, and Spendesk—PayEm sets itself apart by delivering pre-spend control, global reach, ERP-grade integrations, and end-to-end automation. It's built for CFOs and controllers who demand proactive spend prevention, deep financial controls, and scaled automation in a unified workflow—without juggling multiple point solutions.

PayEm’s prime advantage lies in its proactive “request-to-reconciliation” design, capturing spend at the point of decision rather than after the fact. Custom request forms, smart virtual cards, and upfront budget controls enable finance teams to prevent unauthorised transactions—unlike many competitors that rely on post-transaction expense reporting. This closed-loop process reduces tool fragmentation, manual entry, and data inconsistencies, delivering faster turnarounds and greater policy compliance than standalone card providers. While card-first platforms like Ramp and Brex offer export-driven integration, PayEm offers deep ERP-native integration, particularly with NetSuite and QuickBooks. All transactional data—such as amortisation, custom GL structures, and purchase order matching—is handled within the ERP through direct syncing, not just CSV imports. This level of fidelity, supported by instant reconciliation and PO linking, ensures real-time ledger accuracy and stronger financial controls. PayEm’s emphasis on global operations distinguishes it from US-centric platforms. It supports payments in over 200 jurisdictions and 130 currencies, manages multi-currency wallets, and centralises subsidiary spend. This contrasts with Ramp and Airbase, which primarily service domestic markets, and rivals like Brex offering limited global capabilities.
