Dia Browser employs a privacy-first approach with several data protection measures built into its architecture.
Local data encryption: User conversations, history, bookmarks, and files are encrypted and stored locally on the user's device, minimizing exposure of personal information to external servers.
Selective data sharing: Only the minimum necessary data (such as your specific question or the open tab's content) is sent to Dia’s servers or AI partners for processing. AI partners may not store or train on user data after a response is delivered, and Dia avoids collecting sensitive data from banking or healthcare-related sites.
Data minimization and control: Users can delete chats, files, or history at any time; incognito mode prevents any storage, and shared data is deleted automatically after 30 days unless retained for business necessity or legal compliance.
Opt-in features and memory: Dia’s memory can be disabled by the user at any time to avoid context tracking; when enabled, it is powered by on-server summaries but stays device-local.
Compliance and transparency: Dia’s privacy policy covers GDPR and global regulations, allows export or erasure requests, and prohibits intentional collection of data from users under 18 years old.
Limited tracking: Dia does not use personal data for targeted advertising and has explicit policies around data sharing, especially with law enforcement or in case of merger/acquisition.
Cookie management: The browser employs cookies for functionality but does not comply with “Do Not Track” browser requests; disabling cookies may restrict features.
Sensitive site caution: Dia actively avoids storing or processing content from highly sensitive websites, giving users additional protection on financial and healthcare domains.
Dia Browser ships frequent, iterative updates on a weekly cadence, with additional hotfixes as needed during active development phases. Updates are delivered automatically in the background on macOS and can be triggered manually via the menu: DI > Check for Updates, which verifies and installs the latest version. Major versions are accompanied by public release notes outlining new features, performance improvements, and privacy changes; users can also join Early Birds to test pre-release builds before broad rollout.
Management follows a staged, “ship early and often” approach: small weekly releases for incremental improvements, periodic feature drops for Skills, Memory, and tab chat, and rapid hotfixes when regressions are detected. Because Dia is macOS-first, updates rely on its built-in updater rather than the App Store, ensuring faster distribution and granular control over rollout pace. This cadence mirrors the company’s public commitment to transparent, feedback-driven development where user input directly shapes weekly changes and roadmap priorities.
Dia Browser states that users control their data and can export or delete it, with clear options that align to data ownership and portability principles under modern privacy laws like GDPR. Users’ browsing artifacts, such as conversations, history, bookmarks, and files are stored locally and can be cleared at any time; when deleted, they are removed permanently, and incognito sessions are never saved. For any content voluntarily shared to improve Dia, the data is de-identified, retained for 30 days on Dia’s servers, and then deleted; because it’s not tied to an account, early deletion before 30 days is not possible.
When AI processing is needed, only minimal, task-relevant data is transmitted, and AI partners are contractually restricted from training on or retaining that data after fulfilling the request. Users can opt out of sharing “content data to improve Dia” in settings, disable Memory, and request data export or erasure consistent with GDPR’s right to access and portability in structured, machine-readable formats. Terms also grant The Browser Company a license to use user content to operate and improve Dia, with an opt-out for using user content to train proprietary models, while retaining rights over anonymized aggregate data and analyses.
Dia Browser's terms and conditions for contract renewal and cancellation include several key points based on their Terms of Use:
Subscription Auto-Renewal: Paid features within Dia are automatically renewed on a recurring monthly basis at the current non-promotional rate unless a user opts out in their account settings.
Cancellation Process: Users must cancel paid subscriptions through their account settings or by terminating their Dia account prior to the end of the current billing period to stop future charges.
No Early Termination or Refunds: Paid features cannot be terminated mid-billing cycle, and except where legally required, the company does not offer prorated refunds for partial billing periods after cancellation.
Account Termination: Browser may terminate or suspend access to Dia or individual accounts at their discretion, including for violations of terms. Account termination may delete associated content permanently, and recovery is not guaranteed.
License for Content Use: By using Dia, users grant Browser a broad license to use content for service improvement and model training unless the user opts out via privacy settings.
Skill Revocation: Browser may revoke access to AI-powered skills on Dia at any time without liability or refund, and unauthorized recreation of revoked Skills may lead to account suspension.
Dia Browser meets a range of modern compliance standards focused on privacy, data protection, and transparency. It adheres to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), providing users' rights such as data access, deletion, export, and the right to be forgotten. The privacy policy confirms Dia’s commitment to only collecting minimal, necessary data, to avoid retaining personal or sensitive information beyond operational need, and to never intentionally serve users under the age of 18.
Dia also honors data portability, allowing users to export their information in structured, machine-readable formats in line with GDPR Article 20 requirements. Users can delete stored data, including chats and history, and request additional actions via privacy settings or formal data subject requests. Data shared with AI partners is not used for model training and is promptly deleted after the request is fulfilled, supporting principles found in CCPA and privacy-forward EU policies.
