DAT Freight & Analytics, formerly Dial-a-Truck, is a US-based freight exchange service and transportation information provider operating primarily in North America. It hosts North America's largest truckload freight marketplace, with hundreds of millions of loads and trucks posted annually. DAT connects carriers, freight brokers, and shippers by matching available loads with trucks for haulage. It is a business unit of Roper Technologies and is co-headquartered in Denver, Colorado, and Beaverton, Oregon. Jeff Clementz serves as the President and CEO. DAT is recognized for providing real-time freight rate services, logistics data analytics, and transportation market intelligence.
The company’s origins date back to 1958 when Monroe Jubitz started Fleet Leasing, Inc., later expanding to support truckers with fuel, food, and accommodations. In 1978, Albin Jubitz founded Dial-A-Truck as a subsidiary to connect shippers and carriers more efficiently, evolving from posting load information on bulletin boards to electronic monitors at truck stops. By the 1980s, DAT services were widely adopted nation-wide, rebranding in 1989 from Dial-A-Truck to DAT Services. Over the years, it grew by embracing technology that facilitated load matching and real-time trucking data. DAT has continuously expanded its services with digital advancements, culminating in its current role as a leading freight marketplace and analytics provider.
DAT Services was originally owned by Jubitz Corporation until 2001 when TransCore purchased the company. In 2004, Roper Technologies acquired TransCore, including DAT. By 2014, DAT split from TransCore and rebranded as DAT Solutions, and later as DAT Freight & Analytics to emphasize its role in freight market intelligence.
DAT acquired the Freight Market Intelligence Consortium (FMIC) in 2020 from Chainalytics to enhance its benchmarking and analysis capabilities. Over time, it has integrated additional software and technology solutions to broaden its product suite beyond basic load boards, focusing on analytics, digital freight matching, and supply chain visibility tools. It also incorporated TransCore acquisitions earlier which enhanced its tech portfolio.
Recent enhancements include combining multiple DAT tools into the DAT One mobile app for increased usability and efficiency. The company's analytics services (DAT iQ) have been continually improved to offer more robust market insights that help shippers and brokers navigate volatile market conditions. The platform now regularly updates with real-time market data, rate comparisons, and expanded integration capabilities with transportation management systems (TMS) and APIs for automation
DAT emphasizes values such as acting with integrity, executing with excellence, delivering customer value, fostering growth and evolution, and thriving together as a team. These core principles underscore its commitment to innovation, customer-centricity, and collaboration within the freight and logistics industry.
The platform serves hundreds of thousands of users including carriers, freight brokers, shippers, 3PLs, and industry analysts. Its community benefits from access to the largest number of carriers and trucks in North America, detailed company reviews, credit scores, and analytic tools that improve operational efficiency. DAT’s user base covers small to midsize carriers and large enterprises, providing scalability for various business sizes and needs.
