AWS IoT Device Defender

AWS IoT Device Defender is a fully managed security and monitoring service designed to secure IoT devices connected to AWS IoT. It offers several key features that help in maintaining the security posture of IoT fleets. The Audit feature checks device-related resources, such as X.509 certificates and IoT policies, against AWS IoT security best practices, identifying configurations that deviate from these standards. This helps in detecting vulnerabilities like shared identities or overly permissive policies. Additionally, AWS IoT Device Defender provides Rules Detect and ML Detect capabilities. Rules Detect allows users to define normal device behavior using rules, while ML Detect uses machine learning models to automatically identify anomalies based on historical device data, eliminating the need for manual configuration. Both features continuously monitor security metrics to detect unusual device behavior that may indicate a compromise.
