Overview of AppSheet Software Company

AppSheet is a no-code application development platform that enables users to create mobile and web apps without writing code. It empowers business users to build custom solutions by connecting to data sources like Google Sheets, Excel, SQL databases, and cloud services. The platform is known for its ease of use, AI-powered automation, and deep integration with Google Workspace. AppSheet operates as a subsidiary of Google, under the Alphabet Inc. umbrella, following its acquisition in 2020.

Founding and Growth

AppSheet was founded in 2012 by Praveen Seshadri and Brian Sabino in Seattle, Washington. The company began as a startup focused on democratizing app development for non-programmers. Over the years, it gained traction among small businesses and enterprise teams alike, thanks to its intuitive interface and powerful automation features. By the time of its acquisition, AppSheet had grown into a respected player in the no-code space with a lean team of under 50 employees.

Funding and Valuation

Before being acquired by Google, AppSheet raised approximately $20.8 million in funding from investors including New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Shasta Ventures. The company went through several funding rounds, including seed and Series A, and was generating revenue by the time of its acquisition. The acquisition by Google in January 2020 marked a significant milestone, positioning AppSheet as a strategic asset in Google Cloud’s productivity and automation portfolio.
