Alchemy
By Alchemy Insights, Inc
Alchemy is a leading Web3 infrastructure and developer platform that provides APIs, rollups, wallets, and data services to power on-chain applications at scale. It aims to be the “AWS for blockchain,” abstracting node management and protocol complexity so teams can focus on product while relying on highly available, high‑throughput infrastructure.
Alchemy offers a complete developer stack for building on Ethereum, major L2s, Solana, and other chains, including Node RPC, Enhanced APIs, smart wallets, gasless transactions, rollups-as-a-service, and analytics/data APIs. Its infrastructure reportedly powers around 70% of top Web3 teams and more than 90% of Web2 companies building in Web3, serving over 100 million end users globally across NFTs, DeFi, gaming, and enterprise use cases.
Alchemy was founded by Nikil Viswanathan and Joe Lau, who previously built products like Down To Lunch and entered Web3 after encountering the difficulty of running reliable blockchain infrastructure. The company launched its platform in 2020 and quickly became the default infra layer for many high-growth Web3 projects, facilitating tens of billions of dollars in on-chain transaction volume within its first couple of years and expanding from a small founding team to dozens of employees. Web3 developer reports published by Alchemy show sustained growth in contracts deployed, SDK usage, and API requests across L2s and testnets, even through “crypto winter,” underscoring strong underlying developer momentum.
Alchemy has raised multiple high-profile venture rounds from top-tier investors. A $250M Series C led by Andreessen Horowitz in October 2021 valued the company at about $3.5B, only six months after an $80M round at a $505M valuation. In February 2022 it closed an additional $200M equity round led by Lightspeed and Silver Lake, with participation from a16z, Coatue, Pantera, DFJ, and others, bringing total funding to roughly $564M and increasing its valuation to around $10.2B. Coverage at the time described Alchemy as “extremely profitable” relative to many growth-stage startups, highlighting strong unit economics on top of rapidly growing transaction volume and API demand.
Alchemy’s core product is its infrastructure layer: scalable RPC endpoints and Enhanced APIs that abstract node operations, offer higher-level data access (balances, NFTs, logs), and provide 99.9%+ uptime across supported networks. On top of this, the platform offers smart wallets and account abstraction tooling, gas sponsorship, webhooks, NFT APIs, portfolio and token APIs, and a rollups platform that lets builders spin up optimized L2s with integrated observability and tooling. Developer experience is reinforced by SDKs, debugging tools, monitoring, and Alchemy University/education resources, helping teams move from prototype to production quickly.
Recent product evolution has centered on Cortex, the intelligent engine that underlies Alchemy’s infrastructure and is designed to provide massive gains in throughput, latency, and reliability via AI-driven routing and autoscaling. Alchemy continues to ship new APIs, chain integrations, and rollup capabilities, as documented in its changelog and blog—such as support for additional L2s, enhancements to NFT and token data, and improvements in account abstraction and wallet UX.
Alchemy’s published mission is to “bring Web3 to a billion people” by giving builders the tools to create exceptional onchain products. Cultural statements emphasize “Think Big. Move Fast. Own It,” describing a team of owners and “hustlers” who value high energy, bias toward action, and customer-centric problem solving, while encouraging transparency, fast learning from mistakes, and extreme ownership of outcomes. The company pitches itself as a place where people can tackle hard infrastructure problems, grow through responsibility, and work with many of the teams defining the future of Web3.
Alchemy serves a broad mix of Web3-native and traditional brands. Its customer list includes major NFT marketplaces, DeFi protocols, rollups, stablecoin issuers, and large Web2 brands like Shopify and Adobe that are extending into on-chain experiences. Internal and external reports state that the platform powers 70% of top Web3 teams, over 90% of Web2 companies building in Web3, and more than 100 million end users worldwide, with over $100B in annualized on-chain transaction volume flowing through applications built on Alchemy. Community engagement is reinforced through developer surveys, Web3 development reports, Alchemy University, and public content that tracks ecosystem metrics, making Alchemy both an infrastructure provider and a key analytics voice in the Web3 developer community.
