ELSA Speak
By ELSA, Corp
ELSA Speak typical implementation process:
Needs Assessment and Goal Setting: Users (individuals, schools, or organizations) identify language learning objectives, target user groups, and required features (such as business English, exam prep, specific accents).
Registration and User Setup: The customer creates an ELSA Speak account, selects subscription plan, and registers learners via desktop or mobile apps; organizations use group or LMS integrations for bulk setup.
Platform Integration (If required): For enterprise/school deployments, ELSA’s API can integrate with existing LMS (like Moodle, Blackboard, Google Classroom) for centralized access and reporting.
Onboarding and Training: Short training materials, tutorials, and/or live demos guide users through app navigation, study plan customization, and performance dashboard features.
Customization: Users personalize study paths, select preferred accents, voice types, and native language explanation options; organizations set up group analytics and team reporting.
Roll-Out and Launch: Learners begin daily lesson practice and interactive English speaking modules; admins monitor progress and engagement metrics via analytics dashboards.
ELSA Speak can be customized to fit specific business needs across several dimensions:
Hyper-personalized learning paths: Admins and team leads can tailor learning plans for employees based on individual or departmental objectives, business units, job roles, and functional requirements.
Industry-relevant modules: Organizations can request or create practice content using proprietary materials and terminology (e.g., product details, mission statements, methodologies, competitive strategies, or industry-specific terms) to ensure training aligns with company context and desired outcomes.
Custom assignments: Administrators can create, assign, and track homework or study sets from the ELSA Portal, adapting content for specific meetings, client presentations, or business case scenarios as needed.
Scalable group management: Businesses can set up departments or classes, assign teachers or team leads, and invite team members—all manageable on the ELSA Portal with sophisticated group analytics, centralized billing, and license allocation.
Reporting and analytics customization: Custom reports can be exported from the portal, allowing monitoring of lesson completion, minutes practiced, engagement levels, and skill growth by individual, department, or company cohort.
Flexible payment/contract options: ELSA offers variable contract terms (3, 6, 12 months), custom pricing, and private offers for teams over 20 users, allowing precise budget and rollout control.
LMS/API integration: Businesses can connect ELSA with existing learning management systems and internal training platforms for streamlined onboarding, reporting, and content distribution using API and bulk license activation.
Progress prediction and benchmarking: Built-in benchmarking against standardized test frameworks (IELTS, TOEFL) provides predictive scoring and progress tracking for business and academic English needs.
Exclusive and branded content: Some enterprise packages include access to content from leading publishers or options for co-developed branded modules.
ELSA Speak does not charge additional setup, maintenance, or support fees for individual users—the costs are included in the subscription plan, which starts at $6.99/year for individuals with no installation or onboarding charges. For business and enterprise customers, ELSA Speak offers team and business plans that typically include:
Monthly or annual license pricing: Pro version for individuals starts at $11.99/month or $74.99/year. For businesses, pricing starts at $103.50/month or about $100.30/year, usually covering 51–100 users, with custom quotes available for larger deployments.
No explicit setup fees: Implementation (including onboarding and portal setup) is generally included at no extra cost for corporate plans, with virtual support offered for enterprise onboarding.
Maintenance and updates: Covered within regular subscription costs. Users access all new feature releases, platform updates, and bug fixes at no additional charge.
Support and training: Standard email/chat support and access to training resources are included in paid plans. Dedicated account management or additional training (such as custom onboarding for large teams) may be part of higher-tier or custom business offerings, but there are no mandatory recurring support charges.
ELSA Speak offers a suite of training and support resources for new users to ensure a smooth onboarding and continuous learning experience:
Personalized Onboarding: After signing up, each user completes a short questionnaire about language background, interests, and skill level; ELSA then creates a custom learning plan and guides the first-time setup step-by-step in the app, supporting 12+ display languages for instructions and in-lesson translation.
Interactive Tutorials: Users receive in-app tutorials, tooltips, and guided explanations that walk them through lesson selection, pronunciation testing, progress tracking features, and personalization options for vocabulary and accent.
Virtual or Live Onboarding for Businesses: Teams and organizations can access virtual or live onboarding sessions with demos, app setup instructions, and management portal walkthroughs for group activation and analytics.
AI Coach and Live Feedback: As users engage with real-time lessons and exercises, ELSA’s AI coach provides instant, personalized corrections, tips, reminders, and motivational messages to help learners stay focused and make steady progress.
Help Center and Email/Chat Support: All users have access to ELSA’s help center library, including FAQs, setup guides, video walk-throughs, and troubleshooting documentation. Paid users can contact support via email or chat for technical issues, billing questions, or deeper inquiries.
Gamification and Motivational Features: Progress tracking, daily reminders, lesson streak counts, and game-like challenges encourage consistency and skill building, reducing overwhelm and keeping users engaged in their daily practice.
ELSA Speak implements a range of industry-standard security and privacy measures to protect user data:
Physical, Administrative, and Technical Security: ELSA employs multiple layers of security, including physical safeguards, administrative controls, and technical protections to secure personal data against theft, damage, loss, or unauthorized access and use.
Cloud Storage and Regional Compliance: Personal data is stored on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in secure cloud data centers, with storage options in Ireland, the US, Japan, and Singapore to match regional privacy requirements and cross-border data protection standards.
Encryption: While specifics may vary by deployment, ELSA's terms indicate a commitment to the encryption of sensitive data and protection against unauthorized access during data transit and at rest.
GDPR and CCPA Compliance: ELSA follows GDPR requirements for the EU as well as CCPA for California, ensuring proper data processing agreements, user consent collection, data minimization, and clear user rights around data deletion and access.
Role Definitions and Processor Controls: ELSA clearly distinguishes between “data controller” (ELSA for direct users) and “data processor” (institutional deployments), and requires sub-processors to meet the same high standards as dictated by the originating territory’s regulations.
Data Minimization and Aggregation: Only data necessary for platform operation, analytics, and improvement is collected, with additional technical and aggregated usage data de-identified or anonymized where possible.
Third-Party and Cross-Border Protections: When sharing with service providers or for cross-border transfers, ELSA imposes protection and privacy obligations materially similar to those of the data’s country of origin.
Children’s Privacy: ELSA is not designed for minors (under 16); known child data is promptly deleted to stay compliant with COPPA and similar global regulations.
Incident Response: Procedures are in place to detect, report, and respond to unauthorized access or data breaches, with dedicated channels for users to report suspected security or privacy issues.
ELSA Speak releases new content and feature updates every 2 to 4 weeks, with the exact schedule varying depending on the time of year and the platform’s update cycle. Updates are managed centrally by the ELSA development team and are automatically deployed to both mobile (iOS, Android) and web users so that the latest features, lessons, and improvements are immediately available without requiring manual intervention by users.
When new lessons or game types are launched, they are clearly labeled as “NEW” within the app (especially in the “Topics” section), making it easy for users to discover recently released content. In addition to these regular updates, ELSA continuously enhances its AI scoring algorithms, user interface, and progress analytics based on user feedback and research in language learning effectiveness.
ELSA Speak’s policy on data ownership and portability prioritizes user rights, regulatory compliance, and transparency:
User Rights and Ownership: Users retain rights over their personal data, including access, correction, portability, and erasure, as outlined by GDPR, CCPA, and other major privacy laws. ELSA operates as the data controller for direct user accounts and as the data processor for institutional deployments under contract terms.
Data Portability: ELSA users have the right to request and export their personal data. This can be exercised via in-app requests or direct email; ELSA will transmit user-provided data to another controller or download destination in a usable, standardized format as required by law, provided it is technically feasible.
Data Deletion and Objection: Users can easily delete their accounts and associated personal data from within their profile or via written request, making ELSA compliant with “right to be forgotten,” objection to processing, and restriction of processing rights.
Third-Party Transfers and Mergers: In events such as mergers, acquisitions, or insolvency, ELSA may transfer personal data to the relevant parties, but only subject to materially similar protections, limitations, and user rights as under the originating country’s privacy laws.
ELSA Speak allows organizations to scale their licenses and usage up or down flexibly as needs change, particularly through its business and enterprise plans:
Dynamic License Allocation: Organizations can purchase the specific number of licenses needed for a team or department and assign these via the ELSA Portal. If an employee or student leaves, up to 15% of licenses can be reassigned to another team member within the contract period, providing basic flexibility for turnover or resizing.
License Assignment and Activation: Licenses should be assigned to users within two weeks of purchase to avoid loss of subscription time; after two weeks, unassigned licenses automatically activate, and the countdown for the subscription period begins.
Scaling Up: To add more users or expand to new departments, organizations simply purchase additional licenses for the desired time period (3, 6, 12 months, etc.). The system accommodates one-time payments or contract adjustments to meet new staffing levels or implementation sites.
Scaling Down: If organizations anticipate fewer users for the next billing period, they can opt not to renew some licenses, or contact support to reduce the total at renewal. For contract-based business plans, you must notify ELSA before the new term to avoid automatic license renewal.
Payment Flexibility: Payments can be made via credit card, bank transfer, or PayPal, making it easy to adjust volume on demand.
Custom Duration: Contracts for licenses can be set for 3, 6, or 12 months (or custom terms), supporting both short-term training pushes and long-term language initiatives.
Immediate Cancellation: Licenses can be removed or canceled at the end of the current period without penalty or required contract extension, allowing organizations to downsize or pause their English training as budgets or staffing change.
ELSA Speak’s contract renewal and cancellation terms feature several important points for both individual and business customers:
Auto-renewal: All subscriptions, whether monthly or prepaid, are set to automatically renew at the end of each term (month, three, six, twelve, twenty-four months, or lifetime access), unless canceled by the user.
Notice for Cancellation: Subscriptions must be canceled at least 24 hours prior to the renewal date to avoid the next charge. End users can cancel via their account portal, from an email receipt (“Manage subscription” link), or through Apple/Google Play for in-app purchases.
No refund on cancellation (in most cases): Canceling a subscription ensures no further charges, but amounts paid are generally non-refundable unless explicitly requested according to specific refund policies.
Refunds for web purchases: Purchases made on ELSASPEAK.COM’s website are eligible for refund if requested within seven days of purchase; refund requests must be submitted by email, with the refund usually processed to the original payment method within 30 business days.
In-app purchase refund: For Apple App Store or Google Play purchases, refunds are processed by those platforms according to their own policies; ELSA cannot directly refund in-app payments but will guide users to request refunds via Apple/Google.
Active service after cancellation: After canceling, access remains until the end of the paid period. Service and lessons continue until the listed expiration or renewal date, but no further charges will occur.
Updating billing or renewal methods: Users can manage payment options and renewal preferences via their customer portal, including updating cards or switching payment methods before renewal.
Lifetime license: One-time payments for lifetime licenses do not require renewal and offer ongoing access to new features and updates without recurring charges.
No cancellation by deleting app or buying new plan: Deleting the app or purchasing a different subscription does not automatically cancel an existing plan—users must follow proper steps to terminate before renewal.
ELSA Speak meets multiple internationally recognized compliance standards to ensure user privacy, data protection, and lawful processing for both individuals and business customers:
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation): ELSA Speak complies with all GDPR requirements for the collection, storage, processing, and transfer of personal data for users in the European Union, supporting user rights for access, correction, deletion, and portability.
CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act): ELSA supports CCPA guidelines for California residents, granting rights for consumers to access, delete, and opt out of data sales, with clear privacy notices and contact options for privacy management.
COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act): ELSA does not target children under the age of 16, promptly deletes any detected child data, and aligns usage policies with COPPA and other regional child privacy standards.
Data Processing Agreements (DPA): For enterprise and school deployments, ELSA provides dedicated Data Processing Addendums and Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC) to formally govern third-party and cross-border data transfers under applicable law.
Amazon Web Services Security: ELSA stores data on secure AWS cloud servers with data centers chosen for geographic compliance requirements, aligning with SOC 2, ISO 27001, and other technical certifications held by AWS.
