Dia Browser is developed by The Browser Company of New York, a startup founded in 2019 by Josh Miller and Hursh Agrawal, known previously for creating the acclaimed Arc browser. The company’s core vision has been to reinvent the web browser as the modern workspace, focusing on simplicity, speed, and AI-powered assistance for seamless work and life integration.
The Browser Company originated with the belief that the browser had not kept pace with internet users' growing needs, especially for productivity and collaboration. After success with Arc, which gained millions of users but was considered feature-heavy for mass adoption, the company pivoted to focus on Dia—an AI-first, user-friendly browser engineered to be lightweight without sacrificing intelligent functionality.
Over several rounds, The Browser Company raised a total of $128 million, with a significant $50 million round placing its valuation at $550 million in 2024. Notable investors included Pace Capital, NextView Ventures, BoxGroup, Atlassian Ventures, and tech visionaries like Figma’s Dylan Field and Notion’s Akshay Kothari. In September 2025, The Browser Company was acquired by Atlassian for $610 million in cash, marking one of the industry’s largest strategic acquisitions as knowledge work and AI integration become mainstream in workplace tooling.
Dia Browser is built from the ground up for AI-first productivity. It provides contextual chat within every tab, advanced writing and summarization Skills, planning tools, memory-driven personalization, multi-source research synthesis, and seamless Chrome extension compatibility. Pro tier unlocks unlimited AI usage and future premium automations. Its unique Skills framework lets users—and soon, businesses—build custom workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and integrate Dia tightly with SaaS work apps and productivity suites. Recent new features include improved workspace memory, tab mentions, more powerful summary Skills, and student-focused learning aids.
Recent releases have extended Dia’s personalization (memory), introduced enhanced Skills discovery and creation, and added command-driven automation for knowledge management and planning. Arc’s respected Focus Mode and advanced tab management are gradually being ported over for power users.
The Browser Company is renowned for its prototype-driven, transparent, and experimental culture, with a flat team structure encouraging rapid prototyping, public-facing roadmap discussions, and direct user engagement. Core values include humility (“assume you don’t know”), user empowerment, and transparency—values reinforced by Atlassian’s parallel commitment to trust and enterprise-grade service.
Dia targets a broad base: individual consumers, students, and—especially after the acquisition—enterprise knowledge workers. The community engages actively on public forums (e.g., Reddit), feedback channels, and within the product itself, shaping product direction with feature requests, bug reports, and marketing transparency. Weekly updates, an open feedback culture, and a focus on privacy-first, zero-party data principles have driven strong buy-in from early adopters and evangelists.
