Chainalysis is a blockchain analytics company that provides data, software, and services to financial institutions, government agencies, and private companies. Its platform enhances transparency and trust in the cryptocurrency ecosystem by detecting and preventing illicit activities such as money laundering, fraud, and ransomware.
Chainalysis was founded in 2014 by Michael Gronager, Jonathan Levin, and Jan Møller. Initially headquartered in New York City, it has expanded to maintain a presence in key global markets. Over the years, the company has grown rapidly, benefiting from the increasing adoption of cryptocurrencies and the need for tools to ensure compliance and security within the industry.
Chainalysis has raised over $500 million through multiple funding rounds. The most recent round increased its valuation to $8.6 billion. Major investors include Accel, Coatue, Benchmark, and GIC. The significant backing highlights its market leadership and the critical role it plays in the blockchain ecosystem.
Chainalysis offers a robust suite of tools designed for blockchain analysis and compliance:
KYT (Know Your Transaction): Automates transaction monitoring and ensures compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) regulations.
Reactor: A tool for detailed investigations, enabling tracing of transactions and identification of illicit activities.

Chainalysis has consistently expanded its capabilities by partnering with NFT platforms (e.g., Dapper Labs) and integrating with traditional financial institutions like BNY Mellon. While there is no public record of acquisitions, its strategic partnerships and deepened data coverage indicate a focus on organic and collaborative growth.
Recent innovations include:
Enhanced DeFi Coverage: Full identification of top decentralized exchange (DEX) liquidity pools.
SOC 2 Type II Certification: Demonstrates commitment to data security and availability.
