Zight is a visual communication platform that unifies screen recording, webcam video, screenshots, GIF creation, lightweight editing/annotation, cloud hosting, and instant sharing. The company rebranded from CloudApp to Zight in April 2023 to reflect its evolution from a file‑sharing utility to a full asynchronous visual‑communication suite. Its mission emphasizes saving time and reducing misunderstandings in modern, hybrid workflows.
Operationally, Zight provides cross‑platform apps for Mac, Windows, Chrome, and iOS, plus deep integrations with tools such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zendesk, Jira, and Confluence, and an embeddable Record SDK. It also highlights SOC 2 Type II compliance and enterprise admin controls, positioning the product for both SMB and regulated enterprise environments.
CloudApp originated around 2010 as a project by Max Schoening (former lead designer at Heroku), initially focused on frictionless screenshot/file sharing via short links. In 2014, CloudApp was acquired by Aluminum.io/Xenon Ventures; Tyler Koblasa became GM/CEO, later securing funding in 2016 and acquiring IP for the Annotate app to deepen visual‑collaboration features. Over the following years, the product expanded to include Instant Video, collections/favorites, and mobile apps. In April 2023, CEO Scott Smith announced the rebrand to Zight to clarify the platform’s identity as a robust, integrated visual‑communication solution.
User growth has been notable: Zight publicly cites millions of users (4–5M+ depending on the source and timeframe) and high volumes of daily captures. Case studies on the company site emphasize measurable outcomes like faster ticket resolution and pipeline creation.
Zight’s product centers on fast capture + instant sharing with layered context:
Public pricing pages, review sites, and directories describe tiers from Free to Pro, Team, and Enterprise with increasing limits, analytics, and governance; plan pages show 4K recording and advanced admin options in upper tiers.
During the CloudApp era, the team acquired IP for Annotate (a popular Mac/iOS annotation app) in July 2016, strengthening its screenshot/video markup capabilities. Subsequently, the product expanded features like collections, favorites, Instant Video (upload‑while‑recording for instant shareability), mobile apps, and later AI‑assisted workflows under Zight.
Beyond its own roadmap, Zight deepened support functions through marketplace integrations (e.g., Zendesk) and an embeddable recorder via SDK, enabling partner products to incorporate capture and quick sharing within their own UI.
Recent releases and announcements focus on AI and support workflows:
These AI enhancements underscore Zight’s positioning as more than a recorder—a content‑transformation engine that converts visual captures into actionable documentation.
