Envato is a leading online marketplace that provides a platform for creative assets, including themes, graphics, videos, and audio files. Founded in 2006, it has grown to become a significant player in the digital asset market, facilitating transactions between creators and consumers globally. The company operates several marketplaces, including ThemeForest, CodeCanyon, and Envato Elements, catering to various creative needs.
Envato was established by Collis and Cyan Ta’eed, along with Jun Rung, initially launching as FlashDen, a marketplace for Adobe Flash assets. The company quickly expanded its offerings, introducing additional marketplaces such as ThemeForest and AudioJungle. Over the years, Envato has relocated its headquarters multiple times to accommodate its growth, eventually settling in Melbourne, Australia. As of 2023, Envato has over 10 million registered users and has facilitated more than $600 million in earnings for its creators since inception.
Envato has been recognized for its growth and profitability. As of 2023, Envato's estimated valuation stands at approximately $1.37 billion, reflecting its significant impact on the creative asset market and its successful business model.
Envato has strategically acquired companies to expand its product offerings. Notably, in 2018, it acquired Placeit, a tool that enables users to create mockups and designs easily. This acquisition aligns with Envato's mission to provide comprehensive creative solutions and further diversify its service offerings.
Envato continuously updates its platform to enhance user experience. Recent improvements include better integration of subsidiary platforms like MixKit and Reshot, which offer free alternatives to paid assets. This integration aims to streamline user access to a broader range of creative resources.
Envato emphasizes a strong company culture centered around community, diversity, and inclusion. The company supports various initiatives aimed at promoting gender equality and fostering a sense of belonging among its employees. Envato also commits a portion of its profits to charitable causes, reflecting its dedication to social responsibility.
Envato boasts a diverse user base, including freelancers, small business owners, and large enterprises. The platform has cultivated a vibrant community of creators who contribute to its marketplaces. However, user experiences vary significantly, with some expressing dissatisfaction regarding product quality and customer service, particularly in the Envato Market. Despite these challenges, Envato remains a popular choice for many seeking creative assets due to its extensive offerings and user-friendly interface.
