Trolley

The implementation process for Trolley is designed to be efficient but varies based on the required features. Setting up the merchant dashboard and basic configuration can be done almost instantly. However, activating bank transfer payments requires a compliance onboarding process with Trolley's banking partners, which typically takes 4 to 6 weeks. During this time, the Trolley team assists with business verification and KYC requirements. For technical integration, developers can start immediately in the Sandbox environment using the REST API or the modular JS widgets. Once the banking onboarding is complete and the integration is tested, the account can go live, allowing for mass payout runs via CSV upload or API triggers.

Trolley offers extensive customization options to ensure a seamless brand experience. The recipient onboarding portal and widgets are fully white-labelable, allowing businesses to add their own logos, brand colors, and custom domains. Email notifications sent to recipients for payment confirmations, tax form requests, and status updates are also customizable. On the technical side, the API-first architecture provides developers with 'Lego-like' building blocks to embed payout functionality directly into their own UI. Merchants can also configure custom fields and tags for recipients to help with internal categorization, reporting, and complex approval workflows that match their specific organizational structure.

Beyond the base monthly subscription fees for the Pay, Tax, Trust, and Sync modules, Trolley’s costs are primarily transaction-based. These include flat transaction fees per payout, which vary depending on the payment method (e.g., ACH vs. SWIFT) and destination country. There are also currency conversion (FX) fees when sending in local currencies. Certain features like 'Trust' identity verifications or 'Tax' end-of-year e-filing may incur per-recipient or per-form charges. For Trolley Plus customers, volume discounts are available that can significantly lower the per-transaction cost. It is recommended to contact sales for a transparent breakdown based on your specific volume and payout geography.

Trolley provides a comprehensive training ecosystem to ensure both finance and engineering teams can maximize the platform's value. New customers are provided with a dedicated onboarding specialist, and enterprise clients receive a Customer Success Manager (CSM). Training resources include a robust 'Help Center' with step-by-step guides, a 'Learning Center' for industry-specific best practices, and extensive API documentation for developers. Trolley also regularly hosts live webinars and releases video tutorials on new features. For large-scale migrations from other payout providers, Trolley offers a 'Migration Toolkit' and white-glove support to ensure data integrity during the transition.

Security is a foundational pillar of the Trolley platform. The company is SOC 2 Type II compliant, meeting rigorous standards for security, availability, and confidentiality. All data transmission is secured using 256-bit SSL bank-level encryption, and data at rest is similarly encrypted. Passwords and API secrets are one-way hashed using Bcrypt. Trolley operates on AWS, leveraging its global compliance certifications (ISO 27001, PCI-DSS Level 1, etc.). For payments, Trolley uses built-in tokenization for sensitive information like bank account numbers and government IDs. Additional security layers include multi-factor authentication (MFA) for dashboard access and automated AML/KYC screening for every recipient.

Trolley follows a rapid release cadence, frequently deploying new features and platform enhancements. Major product updates are typically announced quarterly through their 'Raising the Bar' series and blog posts. Update frequency for the API is managed with versioning to ensure backward compatibility and prevent breaking changes for existing integrations. The company actively listens to customer feedback to prioritize its roadmap, as seen in recent additions like AI invoice ingestion and processor-based funding. Users can stay informed about updates through the 'Payouts Pulse' newsletter and the 'What's New' section in the merchant dashboard. Maintenance windows are typically scheduled during off-peak hours with minimal impact on service availability.

Under Trolley’s terms of service, customers maintain full ownership of their data. Trolley acts as a data processor, handling information in accordance with GDPR, CCPA, and PIPEDA regulations. Users can export their data at any time directly from the dashboard. Recipient profiles, payment histories, and tax reports can be downloaded in .csv format, while account balances and statements can be exported as .pdf files. This data portability ensures that businesses can maintain their own records for auditing purposes or migrate to other systems if necessary. Trolley also provides a 'Data Processing Agreement' (DPA) to formalize its commitment to data privacy and security.

Trolley is built for high-volume scalability, currently processing billions of dollars in annual payments for some of the world’s largest internet platforms. The system handles everything from 100 to over 1,000,000 recipients with ease. As a team grows, Trolley scales by offering advanced features like multi-entity account structures, custom approval workflows, and higher API rate limits for enterprise-tier customers. The platform’s ability to automate complex tax and compliance logic means that finance teams do not need to scale linearly with payout volume. Whether a business is a startup sending its first batch or a Fortune 500 company managing global royalties, Trolley's infrastructure is designed to handle the load securely.

Trolley typically offers its services on a month-to-month subscription basis for standard plans, while enterprise 'Plus' contracts may involve annual commitments with custom SLAs. Users can cancel their 30-day free trial at any time without a credit card. Subscriptions can be managed directly through the dashboard. The 'Terms of Service' outline the responsibilities of the merchant, including ensuring that all payout instructions are legitimate and compliant with local laws. Trolley reserves the right to block accounts involved in restricted industries like adult entertainment or gambling. Contract renewals for annual plans are usually handled through the dedicated CSM, with clear notice periods provided for any pricing adjustments.

Compliance is a core differentiator for Trolley. The platform is built to help businesses comply with IRS regulations in the US (W-8/W-9, 1099, 1042-S) and international standards like the EU's DAC7 and the UK's Online Safety Act. Trolley is regulated by the FCA as an Authorized Payment Institution in the UK and is registered with FINTRAC (Canada), FinCEN (USA), and AUSTRAC (Australia). Its built-in 'Trust' module automates KYC/AML screening against global watchlists, ensuring that businesses do not inadvertently pay sanctioned individuals. By staying ahead of evolving global tax and reporting laws, Trolley enables its customers to expand into new markets with the confidence that their payout operations remain fully compliant.
