Traceable

Traceable is a leading API security platform designed to protect modern, cloud-native applications from sophisticated cyber threats. The company was founded by serial entrepreneurs Jyoti Bansal and Sanjay Nagaraj, who previously worked together at AppDynamics. Their experience with the rapid adoption of microservices and cloud-native architectures inspired them to create Traceable, addressing the growing risks associated with APIs. The company’s mission is to secure every API, ensuring the safety of the services and data that power modern applications. Traceable combines machine learning (ML), distributed tracing, and behavioral analytics to deliver comprehensive API security, helping businesses mitigate risks while maintaining agility.

Traceable was spun out of BIG Labs, a startup studio focused on solving complex technology challenges. It was co-founded in 2018 by Jyoti Bansal and Sanjay Nagaraj. Since its inception, Traceable has experienced rapid growth, achieving a 300% year-over-year revenue increase in 2023. The company has expanded its executive team with industry veterans and gained significant traction across Fortune 500 companies and global enterprises. Traceable’s growth reflects the increasing demand for API security solutions as organizations adopt cloud-native architectures.

Traceable has raised $20 million in Series A funding from BIG Labs and Unusual Ventures. Additionally, it has received backing from prominent cybersecurity-focused organizations such as SVCI (Silicon Valley CISO Investments). While its exact valuation remains undisclosed, the company’s impressive revenue growth and customer acquisition suggest it is positioned as a leader in the API security space.

Traceable provides a comprehensive suite of tools for securing APIs across their entire lifecycle. Key product features include:

• API Discovery and Cataloging: Automatically identifies all APIs, including shadow APIs, with continuous monitoring for changes.
• Threat Detection: Uses AI/ML to detect both known vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top 10 risks) and unknown threats like zero-day attacks.
• API Security Testing (AST): Proactively identifies vulnerabilities during development using real traffic data.
• Fraud Prevention: Detects fraudulent activities in real-time through behavioral analysis.
• Sensitive Data Protection: Monitors data flows to prevent unauthorized access or exfiltration.
• Generative AI Security: Secures APIs connected to large language models (LLMs), addressing unique vulnerabilities such as prompt injection or sensitive data exposure.
• Role-Based Access Control (RBAC): Provides granular control over user permissions across different environments.
• Compliance Support: Aligns with standards like SOC 2, GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI-DSS.

Traceable also integrates seamlessly with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and tools like SIEMs for streamlined workflows.

• Partnered with Wiz to integrate cloud and API security.
• Released the industry’s first Zero Trust API Security Reference Architecture to promote secure API practices.
• Open-sourced its distributed tracing technology under the project name "Hypertrace," making it accessible for developers while keeping its proprietary security features exclusive.

Recent product innovations include:

• Enhanced fraud prevention capabilities.
• Advanced dashboards for monitoring generative AI APIs.
• Expanded API testing tools for identifying vulnerabilities before production.
These updates demonstrate Traceable’s commitment to addressing emerging threats while improving usability for security teams.

Traceable emphasizes a strong company culture rooted in innovation, collaboration, and customer success. Core values include:

• Radical Candor: Encouraging open communication.
• Customer Obsession: Building products that prioritize customer needs.
• Mutual Respect: Fostering an inclusive workplace environment.
The team’s expertise in DevOps, distributed systems, and application monitoring drives its ability to build cutting-edge solutions that address real-world challenges.

Traceable serves a diverse user base spanning industries such as financial services, healthcare, technology, telecom, and e-commerce. Its customers include Fortune 500 companies like Globe Telecom. The platform is particularly popular among DevOps teams, security professionals, and compliance officers who need comprehensive visibility into their API ecosystems. Traceable also engages with the broader developer community through its open-source Hypertrace project.
