Founding and Growth

Primavera Systems Inc. was founded in 1983 by Joel Koppelman and Dick Faris in Pennsylvania.

It became a leader in project portfolio management (PPM) software, especially in construction and heavy industries.

Oracle acquired Primavera Systems in October 2008, integrating it into its enterprise software ecosystem.

Primavera Cloud (formerly Oracle Prime) was later developed as a modern, cloud-native successor to Primavera P6.

Funding and Valuation

Before acquisition, Primavera Systems raised approximately $25 million in funding from investors including Francisco Partners, Insight Partners, and Intel Capital.

Oracle acquired Primavera for an undisclosed amount, but the acquisition was part of Oracle’s broader strategy to dominate enterprise PPM.

Primavera now operates as a strategic product line within Oracle, contributing to its multi-billion-dollar cloud business.
