Manjaro Linux is a user-friendly, open-source Linux distribution based on Arch Linux. It employs a rolling release model, ensuring users have access to the latest software updates. Manjaro aims to provide the power and flexibility of Arch Linux while offering a more accessible experience for users of all levels.
Manjaro was initiated in 2011 by three friends from Munich: Roland Singer, Guillaume Benoit, and Philip Müller. Initially announced on the Arch Linux forums, it started as a project to simplify the installation process of Arch Linux. Over time, it evolved into a full-fledged distribution with its own tools and repositories.
Manjaro offers a range of features designed to enhance user experience:
Desktop Environments: Official editions include Xfce, KDE Plasma, and GNOME. Community editions offer environments like Cinnamon, MATE, and i3.
Package Management: Utilizes Pacman for package management, complemented by Pamac, a graphical interface for easier software installation and updates.
Hardware Detection: The mhwd tool automatically detects and configures hardware, simplifying driver installation.
Kernel Management: Users can easily switch between different kernel versions using the mhwd-kernel tool.
Manjaro continuously integrates new features to enhance user experience:
Manjaro 24.0 "Wynsdey": Released with Linux Kernel 6.9, this version brought improvements to Pamac, updated desktop environments (GNOME 46, KDE Plasma 6, Xfce 4.18), and enhanced hardware support.
Manjaro emphasizes a balance between cutting-edge technology and user accessibility. The project's culture is rooted in community collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement. By fostering an environment where both developers and users contribute, Manjaro ensures that its development aligns with the needs and feedback of its community.
Manjaro boasts a vibrant and active community:
Forums and Wikis: The official Manjaro forums and wikis serve as hubs for discussions, troubleshooting, and sharing knowledge.
Community Editions: Driven by community interest, various desktop environments are maintained and supported, showcasing the collaborative spirit of the Manjaro user base.
