Order or obtain a Zettle card reader if you don’t already have one.
Turn on the Zettle Reader using the power button.
Pair your device with the Zettle Reader by following the on-screen instructions and confirming the pairing code on both devices.
For more advanced needs, such as custom integrations, use the Zettle API and follow the provided developer guidelines.
Assign Zettle as the payment gateway for your store locations if you operate multiple sites.
Run a test transaction to ensure everything is working correctly.
Once you’ve confirmed the setup is successful, you can start accepting payments from customers.
Zettle offers a range of customization options to help businesses tailor the system to their unique requirements:
Add up to three options per product (such as size, color, or style), with a maximum of 100 variants per product.
Update prices or attributes for multiple product variants at once, saving time when making large changes.
Create and assign custom categories to products, making it easier to filter and manage your inventory.
These APIs cover inventory management, product library, purchase data, finance, and more, allowing for deeper customization.
Zettle provides several forms of training and support to help new users get started and resolve any issues:
Zettle takes data security very seriously and has several measures in place:
Data Ownership:
When you use Zettle, you retain full ownership of your business and transaction data. Zettle acts as a custodian and processor of your data, but the rights and control remain with you as the customer.
Data Portability:
You have the right to access and receive a copy of your personal and business data stored by Zettle. At any time, you can request a full download of your data. In some cases, Zettle may charge a reasonable administrative fee for this service, but they will inform you in advance if this applies. This ensures you can back up your data or transfer it to another provider if needed.
Data Retention and Deletion:
Zettle keeps your data only as long as necessary to fulfill contractual and legal obligations. Once the data is no longer needed, it is either anonymized or deleted. You can request correction, access, or deletion of your data, except where legal requirements prevent immediate removal.
Data Transfers:
If your data needs to be transferred internationally, Zettle ensures that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information, in line with data protection regulations.
No Long-Term Contracts or Minimum Commitments:
Zettle uses a flexible, pay-as-you-go approach. There are no long-term contracts, subscription fees, or minimum usage requirements. You only pay transaction fees based on what you actually use.
Adding or Removing Devices and Services:
You can purchase additional card readers or accessories whenever your business needs them. If your business scales down, there are no penalties—you simply process fewer transactions, and your costs decrease accordingly.
Account Changes and Closures:
You can update your business or bank details at any time. If you decide to stop using Zettle, you can close your account without any cancellation fees. Your data remains accessible for download or transfer, as required by law.
Contract Renewal:
Zettle operates on a rolling monthly basis with no fixed contract period. Your subscription automatically renews each month unless you choose to terminate it or Zettle ends the agreement. The contract remains in force until either party decides to end it.
Cancellation by the User:
You can cancel your Zettle service at any time by closing your account through the instructions provided in your account settings or by contacting Zettle support. There are no cancellation fees. However, you remain responsible for any outstanding payments or obligations incurred before closing your account. Once your account is closed, your license to use Zettle’s services ends, and Zettle may delete your data unless retention is required by law.
Cancellation by Zettle:
Zettle may terminate your account by giving you 30 days’ notice. They can also suspend or close your account immediately without notice if you breach the terms of service, engage in fraudulent or illegal activities, present a credit or fraud risk, or become insolvent or bankrupt. Additionally, Zettle may terminate your account if required by payment networks, regulators, or if your actions could harm Zettle’s reputation or that of its partners. If your Zettle account is linked to a PayPal account, closing one may require closing the other.
Changes to Terms:
Zettle may update or change their terms and features at any time, usually providing 30 days’ notice. If you do not agree with the changes, you must close your account within the notice period; otherwise, continued use implies acceptance of the new terms.
