SpeedInvoice
By SpeedSolutions Pty Ltd
SpeedInvoice, developed by SpeedSolutions Pty Ltd, is a Swedish-Australian technology company that has specialized in mobile business solutions since its inception. Founded in 2011 by Albin Carlsson in Stockholm, the company identified an early market gap for professional-grade business tools that could operate effectively on the burgeoning smartphone and tablet market. Over the last decade, SpeedInvoice has evolved from a simple app into a sophisticated cloud platform that serves hundreds of thousands of small businesses globally. The company maintains a lean operational structure, focusing heavily on product development and customer-centric support. SpeedInvoice is positioned as a bridge between simple manual invoicing and complex ERP systems, catering to the millions of micro-enterprises that need professional results without the administrative overhead. With a mission to 'empower entrepreneurs with mobile tools,' the company has successfully expanded its footprint across every continent, localizing its product into over 30 languages and adapting its systems to meet diverse international tax requirements, including European GDPR standards and Australian GST regulations.
The story of SpeedInvoice began in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2011. Founder Albin Carlsson, with a background in business administration and information technology from Stockholm University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology, recognized that traditional invoicing software was poorly adapted for the mobile era. While desktop solutions existed, they were often inaccessible for tradespeople and consultants working in the field. Carlsson's vision was to create a 'pocket-sized office' that didn't sacrifice professional quality for mobility. The initial development phase focused on perfecting the synchronization engine, a critical component that allowed data to remain consistent across different devices. In 2014-2015, the company expanded its operations to include an Australian entity, SpeedSolutions Pty Ltd, to better serve the growing demand in the Asia-Pacific region. From its early days as a bootstrapped startup, the company has prioritized organic growth and user feedback, often implementing new features based directly on the suggestions of its global user community. This founder-led approach has ensured that the product remains focused on practical, real-world utility for business owners.
SpeedInvoice stands out in the SaaS landscape as a highly successful, unfunded, and bootstrapped company. Since its founding in 2011, the company has not raised any external venture capital or private equity rounds. This strategic decision has allowed the leadership to maintain full creative and operational control over the product's roadmap without the pressure for hyper-growth often demanded by institutional investors. By reinvesting its own revenue back into product development and infrastructure (utilizing Amazon Web Services for its global cloud backbone), SpeedInvoice has achieved long-term sustainability and profitability. The lack of external funding has fostered a culture of extreme efficiency and customer focus, as the company's survival and growth are directly tied to user satisfaction and subscription renewals. This stability is often cited as a positive factor for long-term users who rely on the platform for their business continuity, knowing that the company is not subject to the volatile shifts or pivot-pressures often associated with funded startups.
The SpeedInvoice product ecosystem is built around a single, robust subscription that unlocks a suite of interconnected tools. The primary offering is the SpeedInvoice Mobile App (available on iOS and Android), which serves as the primary touchpoint for users in the field. This is complemented by the SpeedInvoice Web Service, which provides a desktop-optimized interface for deep data entry, detailed report generation, and account management. Within this ecosystem, the software provides modules for Invoice Management (including credit notes and pro-forma invoices), Estimate and Quote Management (with one-click conversion to invoices), Customer Relationship Management (tracking contact details and transaction history), and Item/Service Cataloging (including cost tracking and margin analysis). Additionally, the 'SpeedInvoice Custom Layout' service is a premium add-on offering where professional designers create bespoke invoice templates for a one-time fee. The platform also offers a multi-company feature, allowing entrepreneurs who run multiple businesses to manage separate entities from a single login, a highly valued feature for serial freelancers and small holding companies.
SpeedInvoice has followed a path of aggressive global expansion, primarily driven by localization. While its corporate roots are in Sweden and Australia, its user base is truly international. The company's expansion strategy centered on making the software native to as many markets as possible, leading to support for over 30 languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, and many more. This localization extends beyond language to include deep integration of local tax requirements; the software automatically adapts to handle VAT in the EU, GST in Australia and India, and various Sales Tax structures in North America. To support this global reach, the company migrated its entire infrastructure to Amazon Web Services (AWS), utilizing data centers in multiple regions to ensure low latency and high availability for users regardless of their geographic location. While the company does not maintain large physical offices in every region, its 'support-from-anywhere' model and localized digital documentation have allowed it to successfully capture market share in both mature and emerging economies.
In the last 12-18 months, SpeedInvoice has introduced several major feature sets designed to improve professional output and administrative efficiency. One of the most significant additions is the enhanced 'Digital Signature' module, which now allows customers to sign both quotes and invoices directly on the user's mobile screen, with the signature then permanently embedded in the resulting PDF. The platform also recently introduced 'Lot and Expiry Tracking,' a niche but critical feature for businesses in the pharmaceutical and food sectors, allowing them to track specific batches within their invoicing workflow. Other recent updates include a revamped User Interface (UI) for the web service to provide a more modern, faster experience, and improved 'Share' functionality that allows users to send invoices via WhatsApp, SMS, or Messenger in addition to traditional email. These updates focus on reducing the 'friction' between the business owner and their customer, ensuring that documents are not only created quickly but also delivered through the channels customers use most.
The company culture at SpeedSolutions is characterized by a lean, engineering-led, and customer-centric philosophy. With a small, highly specialized team, the work environment is focused on high-impact output and direct accountability. There is a strong emphasis on 'the user's perspective,' a trait instilled by the founder and reflected in the company's high ratings. The culture values stability and practicality over trend-following; features are only added if they solve a genuine problem for the small business owner. This 'pragmatic innovation' means that while the company keeps pace with technical standards (like AWS hosting and high-level encryption), they avoid unnecessary complexity that could alienate their non-technical user base. Employee reviews often highlight the 'family feel' of the organization and the direct line of communication between the support team and the development department. This close-knit environment ensures that common user issues are addressed rapidly, fostering a sense of shared purpose in helping small businesses succeed.
SpeedInvoice has cultivated a massive and highly engaged global user community, particularly visible within the mobile app stores. With over 12,000 reviews on Google Play and thousands more on the Apple App Store, the community serves as a primary source of validation and product feedback. The company actively monitors these platforms, responding to reviews and incorporating top-requested features into their development sprints. While they do not host traditional massive conferences, they maintain an extensive 'Knowledge Base' and help center that acts as a community forum where users can find solutions to common business challenges. The community is diverse, ranging from independent contractors in the UK and Australia to small retail distributors in Southeast Asia and North America. This global network of users often contributes to the product's evolution by suggesting regional specificities that are then integrated into the global platform, such as specific tax formats or terminology changes, making SpeedInvoice a product truly shaped by its users.
