Microsoft Lists is a modern, intelligent information-tracking application developed by Microsoft as part of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, and represents a natural evolution of SharePoint Lists into a standalone, user-friendly productivity platform.
Microsoft Lists provides individuals, teams, and enterprises with an easily accessible means to create, manage, and collaborate on structured data—covering use cases from asset management, issue tracking, and event planning to HR onboarding and project governance. The platform integrates seamlessly with Microsoft 365 apps, including Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, and Power Platform, making it central to distributed, real-time workplace collaboration.
Initially rooted in SharePoint’s list functionality, Microsoft Lists was launched in mid-2020 as a dedicated app to broaden ease of use and reinforce collaboration within the growing Microsoft 365 suite. Its growth has been driven by the strategic adoption of Microsoft 365 across SMBs and large enterprises, as well as an increased organizational focus on digital transformation and team productivity. Microsoft’s infrastructure and user base provide Lists with an inherent scale advantage, rapidly accelerating its global reach and feature development.
