UrBackup follows a unique open-core and community-driven pricing model. The base software, including the server and clients for all platforms, is completely free and open-source under the AGPLv3+ license. This allows organizations to deploy a fully functional backup infrastructure without any licensing fees. However, Infscape UG, founded by lead developer Martin Raiber, offers commercial enhancements. These include a high-performance Changed Block Tracking (CBT) driver for Windows (approx. €15.50 per license) and the Infscape UrBackup Appliance. The appliance simplifies deployment and adds enterprise features like native S3 cloud archival and advanced RAID management, with tiered monthly pricing based on the number of clients and storage volume. This structure ensures that small users can enjoy professional-grade backup for free, while larger enterprises can access advanced features and guaranteed support through a paid subscription.
