Tines is a premier automation and orchestration company that has rapidly become a unicorn in the cybersecurity space, achieving a valuation of $1.125 billion as of early 2025. Headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, with a significant presence in Boston, USA, the company was founded on the principle that 'accidental programmers'—experts in their fields who aren't software engineers—should be able to build world-class automation. Since its inception in 2018, Tines has grown from a security-focused tool into a versatile enterprise workflow engine. Its strategic vision is to become the 'interaction layer' for the modern enterprise, where humans, AI, and legacy systems collaborate seamlessly. The company maintains a market-leading position by combining high-velocity product shipping with a deeply customer-centric support model, consistently winning awards for its ease of use and rapid time-to-value.
Tines was founded in 2018 by Eoin Hinchy and Thomas Kinsella, two seasoned cybersecurity leaders who had previously built technical security teams at major global corporations like eBay, PayPal, and DocuSign. During their combined 25+ years in the industry, they witnessed the 'burnout crisis' in Security Operations Centers (SOCs) first-hand. They realized that existing SOAR (Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response) tools were either too simple to handle complex enterprise logic or so complex they required dedicated software engineering teams to maintain. They set out to build a platform that captured the 'power of code' with the 'simplicity of no-code.' The first major customer was a Fortune 10 company that adopted Tines for its flexibility, and the company has since expanded to serve over 150 of the world's most innovative enterprises.
Tines has a robust financial backing from some of the world's most prestigious venture capital firms, totaling over $272 million in investment. The company reached unicorn status in February 2025 with a $125 million Series C round led by Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives. This round also saw participation from SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and Activant Capital, alongside existing backers Accel, Felicis, and the CrowdStrike Falcon Fund. Previous milestones include a $50 million Series B extension in May 2024 and a $55 million Series B in October 2022. These investments have been strategically used to accelerate the integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) into the platform and to expand Tines' global footprint in the US and EMEA markets.
The Tines product ecosystem is centered around a unified intelligent workflow platform that offers three distinct modules: Storyboard, Workbench, and Case Management. The 'Storyboard' is the foundational visual builder where users design deterministic workflows using seven action types (e.g., HTTP Request, Event Transform, Trigger). 'Workbench' is the AI-native module launched in 2024, which serves as a generative AI chat interface where users can ask questions about their data and trigger automated actions on the fly. 'Case Management' provides a structured environment for human teams to collaborate on the incidents that automation discovers. This interconnected suite allows a security team to go from an automated alert to a deep AI-assisted investigation and finally to a resolved case, all within a single interface.
Tines has pursued an aggressive global expansion strategy, moving beyond its Dublin roots to establish a major operational hub in Boston to serve the North American market. In 2025, the company announced its intention to enter the Asian market, leveraging SoftBank's regional connections. In EMEA, Tines provides 24/5 and 8/5 support coverage aligned with Central European Time (CET) to cater to customers across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The company has also achieved significant penetration into the US Federal market, providing specialized support for zero-trust initiatives and federal security mandates. Their expansion isn't just geographic; they have also expanded from a 'Security-only' tool into a general IT and DevOps automation platform used for everything from cloud cost management to HR onboarding.
The last 12-18 months have marked the most significant period of product evolution in Tines' history. In early 2026, the company launched 'AI in Tines,' which included native support for the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing teams to build and govern AI agents that can securely call enterprise tools. In mid-2025, Tines released 'Automatic Mode,' an AI feature that automatically writes data transformation logic that previously required manual JSONPath configuration. Other major updates include the launch of 'Workbench'—a generative AI copilot—and a completely overhauled 'Case Management' system that integrates directly with automated stories. These features collectively aim to transition Tines from a static automation tool into an agentic orchestration layer that can handle unpredictable, real-world data scenarios.
Tines' culture is built on the values of Simplicity, Speed, and Soundness. As a company 'built by practitioners for practitioners,' they prioritize solving real-world problems over marketing hype. The work environment is described as high-velocity yet inclusive, with a strong focus on empowering 'accidental programmers.' Tines has a significant remote and hybrid workforce across Ireland and the US, emphasizing trust and asynchronous collaboration. They are known for their transparency, often sharing detailed product roadmaps and security postures publicly. Their culture of 'sounding' means they focus on doing the right thing for the customer, which has led to one of the highest Net Promoter Scores (NPS) in the cybersecurity software category.
The Tines community is a vibrant ecosystem of over several thousand 'builders' who share automation stories and best practices. Central to this is the 'Community Slack,' where Tines engineers and users collaborate in real-time. 'Tines University' offers free, self-paced certification programs (Core and Advanced) that have certified thousands of professionals globally. The company also maintains a public 'Story Library'—a repository of hundreds of pre-built, production-ready automation templates that users can import into their tenants with a single click. Furthermore, Tines hosts regular 'Bootcamps' and webinars, and their 'Tines Store' features community-designed assets, fostering a culture of shared learning and creative problem-solving.
