Tehama is a cloud-native SaaS company based in Ottawa, Canada, delivering a powerful platform for secure, virtual desktop infrastructure (DaaS) tailored to hybrid and remote workforce needs. The platform enables organizations, managed service providers, and public-sector entities to rapidly deploy isolated, encrypted “enclaves” or virtual workspaces with Zero Trust security, automated audit logging, and governance—all managed through an intuitive web interface.
Tehama originated as an internal platform within Pythian, an IT services firm founded in 1997. It made its public debut in September 2018 and spun off into an independent company by September 2019. Founder Paul Vallée left Pythian to lead Tehama, bringing his vision for secure hybrid work to market. The COVID-19 pandemic became a major growth inflection point. In March 2020, inquiries increased 35-fold month-over-month, and by May 2020 the customer count exceeded 150.
Tehama secured a US $10 million Series A funding round in May 2020, led by OMERS Ventures alongside BDC Capital. Subsequently, in November 2022, the team raised an additional US $2.7 million in conventional debt financing from FedDev Ontario. After entering insolvency in early 2023, Tehama was acquired by its management team in March 2023—Paul Vallée, Rob White, Kevin Haaland, and Mick Miralis—backed by private investment, marking its rebirth as Tehama Technologies Inc. Though valuation figures remain undisclosed, PitchBook notes Tehama as an “acquired/merged” entity, reflecting its transition to a privately held firm.
Tehama's platform enables the creation of isolated, encrypted virtual workspaces (“enclaves”) with secure Windows/Linux desktop environments. It operates on a Zero Trust security model, embedding features such as multi-factor authentication, privileged access controls, encrypted sessions, DNS/firewall policies, and automated audit logging. Additionally, it offers secure gateway access, vendor and contractor onboarding, integration with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), domain-join configs, AI governance controls, and granular filesystem vaults.
Tehama’s public-facing “acquisition” in March 2023 was essentially a management buyout following bankruptcy, avoiding the loss of the platform’s vision and key features. The transition under its own leadership—now as Tehama Technologies Inc.—marked a strategic reset rather than a new feature acquisition; it emphasized continuity in its product roadmap and recommitment to innovation.
Post-restructuring, Tehama focused on refining its core offerings while pivoting attention toward higher-value markets like government and regulated industries. In 2024 and 2025, efforts centered on enhancing AI governance, accelerating compliance, and improving government procurement eligibility—DG public-sector contracts and certifications to facilitate RFP-free acquisitions.
Tehama cultivates a remote-first, flexible workplace culture that values agility, work-life balance, and innovation. With an estimated 20–50 employees, the company ranks highly on Glassdoor (e.g., a 4.6/5 culture rating) and publicly emphasizes collaborative, distributed teamwork. Leadership comprises founder Paul Vallée (CEO) along with longstanding executives—Rob White (CFO), Kevin Haaland (CTO), and Mick Miralis (CRO)—each forming part of the management-led buyout.
By mid-2020, Tehama had surpassed 150 enterprise clients, spanning sectors including public services, finance, healthcare, telecommunications, and federal governments. Revenue milestones indicate a well-managed scale: from US $5.1 M in 2021, down to US $2.7 M in 2023, rebounding to US $3.1 M by October 2024—an indicator of sustained growth and customer retention. Formal user communities remain largely professional and analyst-oriented, supported by a self-service Help Center, partner programs for MSPs, VARs, and close federal procurement relationships in Canada.
