SandboxAQ

SandboxAQ is a pioneering technology company at the intersection of artificial intelligence and quantum science, dedicated to solving some of the world’s most complex challenges across numerous industries. Spun out from Alphabet Inc., SandboxAQ leverages its foundational expertise in AI, quantum computing, physics, and molecular sciences to deliver a new breed of quantitative modeling and simulation tools that are directly applicable to real-world domains such as life sciences, cybersecurity, materials science, autonomous navigation, and financial services. A core pillar of SandboxAQ’s offering is its Large Quantitative Models (LQMs)—these are next-generation AI models designed to operate at the foundation of matter, biology, and economics. Unlike traditional AI, which often relies on historical or probabilistic data, LQMs are grounded in the laws of physics, chemistry, and biology, providing scientifically reliable predictions and insights. This focus on “quantitative AI” allows SandboxAQ’s solutions to accelerate the research, discovery, and development processes that are vital for innovation in pharmaceuticals, advanced materials, and other highly technical fields. For example, in drug discovery, SandboxAQ’s models autonomously explore millions of potential molecular configurations and chemical pathways, elevating the speed and quality of breakthroughs far beyond what human researchers or classical algorithms could achieve alone. By integrating large, curated datasets such as the SAIR dataset—which contains over 5.2 million protein-ligand structures—SandboxAQ continually refines its predictions and enhances its contributions to biomedical R&D and therapeutic innovation. The company’s impact extends well beyond the laboratory. In cybersecurity, SandboxAQ’s AQtive Guard solution uses AI and quantum principles to help enterprises and governments prepare for the future of encryption, identifying, and protecting vulnerable digital assets against emerging quantum threats. Its quantitative simulation and optimization tools are utilized by sectors ranging from the U.S. Army—where AI has been used to improve battery life and performance of military equipment—to major players in energy, where the technology guides the design of new, safer, and longer-lasting batteries. In financial services, SandboxAQ’s models help institutions “stop guessing, start predicting,” guiding market resilience, regulatory compliance, and fraud prevention by capturing the full complexity of economic systems at a molecular or transactional level.
