Schwab Intelligent Portfolios (SIP) was launched in March 2015 by Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. and Schwab Wealth Investment Advisory, Inc. It is designed to simplify and democratize investing, delivering professional portfolio management with no advisory fees or commissions for standard accounts. The service appeals to a broad range of investors seeking either fully automated investing or a hybrid approach with optional human advisor support.

• SIP began offering its services in 2015, responding to increased demand for digital wealth management and cost-efficient investing.

• By June 2015, SIP surpassed $3 billion in assets under management across more than 39,000 accounts, rapidly scaling with strong interest from millennials, Gen-Xers, and Baby Boomers alike.

• The platform has since amassed billions more in assets and continues to expand features and account types.

• Automated Portfolio Construction: SIP uses a digital questionnaire to assess goals, risk tolerance, and investment horizon, then builds a tailored portfolio from 50+ low-cost ETFs spanning 20+ asset classes.

• No Advisory Fees: There are no management or commission fees for the standard service; clients only pay the underlying ETF expense ratios (average ~0.12%).

• Automatic Rebalancing and Tax-Loss Harvesting: Portfolios are monitored daily and automatically rebalanced; tax-loss harvesting is available for taxable accounts with $50,000+ in assets.

• Human Support Available: SIP Premium adds unlimited access to Certified Financial Planners and a digital financial plan for a flat monthly fee.

• Account Flexibility: Supports taxable accounts (individual, joint, custodial, trusts) and tax-advantaged IRAs (traditional, Roth, rollover, SEP, SIMPLE).

• Schwab emphasizes client-first values, transparency, and keeping investing accessible through low or no fees.

• Company culture prizes technological innovation, professional integrity, and personal investor support—backed by 24/7 live assistance.

• Schwab has earned recognition as a Fortune “Most Admired Company” and received multiple J.D. Power awards for investor satisfaction.

• SIP serves clients across all age groups and wealth levels: about half are millennials or Gen-X, and roughly 15% of users have $1 million+ invested at Schwab.

• The platform is used by hands-off investors, tech-savvy professionals, business owners, and retirees looking for efficient, transparent digital investing with robust support options.

• Community resources include an extensive knowledge base, educational articles, and responsive client service, forming an active user ecosystem.
