What is Call tracking software?

Call Tracking Software enables businesses to monitor and analyze incoming and outgoing phone calls from various marketing campaigns and sources. The software helps them identify which advertising channels or strategies drive most phone leads and conversions, allowing them to make data-driven decisions to optimize their marketing efforts and improve customer experience.

Call tracking software provides better visibility into marketing performance to help businesses make informed decisions to maximize their return on investment (ROI) on media spending and advertising efforts.

What are the common features of Call tracking software?

• Call recording: Records the audio of phone conversations for quality assurance, training, and performance evaluation purposes. Call recordings may also be essential for compliance and dispute resolution purposes, ensuring accurate documentation of customer interactions.
• Call tracking metrics: Offers various metrics to help businesses measure and analyze the effectiveness of their phone call activities. These metrics include number of calls, duration, and call geographical source.
• Call routing: Allows businesses to direct incoming calls to specific team members based on predefined rules and conditions. The feature helps optimize call handling and ensures calls get routed to the most appropriate agents, based on their skills and subject matter expertise.
• Conversion tracking: Allows businesses to measure and attribute phone call conversions to specific marketing campaigns or sources. It helps marketers and businesses understand which advertising efforts drive leads and conversions through phone calls.
• Caller identification: Helps identify the phone number or caller information associated with incoming phone calls. The software captures and displays the caller's phone number, name, and other relevant information in real time.

What are the benefits of Call tracking software?

• Provides accurate marketing attribution: Call tracking software allows businesses to track the sources of incoming calls, such as specific advertising campaigns, online channels, or offline marketing efforts. This data helps measure the success of different marketing strategies and allocate marketing budgets more effectively.
• Improves customer service: Call tracking allows businesses to monitor and evaluate customer calls, enabling them to identify areas for improvement in customer service. This information helps train staff, address customer pain points, and enhance customer experience.
• Helps with geographic targeting and local marketing: For businesses with multiple locations, call tracking software can provide insights into which regions generate more calls and leads. This information can help with local marketing efforts and resource allocation.
• Provides data-driven call insights: Call tracking software provides valuable data on call duration, sources, and number of calls. Such data can help businesses understand which marketing campaigns, keywords, and channels are driving the most calls, ultimately allowing for better decision-making and optimization of marketing efforts.

How much does Call tracking software cost?

Most call tracking software solutions on the market are priced on a "per user per month" basis, and their entry-level pricing plans range from $6 to $36+* per month. An enterprise product priced higher may include additional features such as real-time call dashboards, coaching tools, sales integration, web forms, and custom analytics and reporting.

*The pricing included is for the entry-level/lowest-priced offerings found on vendor websites as of August 1, 2023.

Key considerations when purchasing Call Tracking Software

• Check for number pooling and provisioning: Number pooling allows businesses to assign unique phone numbers to different marketing channels, campaigns, or even individual ads. When a lead calls one of these numbers, the call tracking software can easily identify which channels are generating the most calls. This feature is especially useful for businesses engaged in various marketing campaigns, advertising channels, or geographic locations to help attribute leads to specific campaigns efficiently.
• Look for dynamic number insertion (DNI) functionality: DNI is a crucial feature that dynamically replaces regular business phone numbers on your website or landing pages with the tracking phone number** associated with the specific campaign. This way, when a user calls the number, the call will get routed through and attributed to it.
• Ensure the software offers conversion tracking and attribution models: Conversion tracking helps link calls to specific goals, such as sales or sign-ups for products and services. Additionally, call attribution models can assign credit or value to various touchpoints, such as first-touch and last-touch during the entire customer journey and help understand which touchpoints are closer to conversion.
